Explore the Cathedral of Junk

The Cathedral of Junk, started by Vince Hannemann in 1989, this whimsical, multilevel shelter is made with 60+ tons of used furniture, home goods and carefully-curated junk in South Austin. Hannemann has been sculpting since he was a teenager in New Mexico.

Live music at The Continental Club

Austin is known as the live music capital of the world, and The Continental Club is the live music capital of Austin. The iconic venue on South Congress Avenue opened its doors in 1955 and has since welcomed legends like Robert Plant and Wanda Jackson. It’s quite a modest place with a small stage, but its reputation is massive and it still hosts great roots, rock, country, swing, blues and rockabilly acts every night.

Visit the Texas Capitol

Built in 1885 in an Italian Renaissance Revival style, the imposing building is in the middle of a lovely 22-acre park, which also contains a number of statues and monuments. You can take a 30-minute guided tour of the building for free, which details the history of Texas and the state’s legislature.

Take in the views at Mount Bonnell

Mount Bonnell, also known as Covert Park, is a prominent point alongside the Lake Austin portion of the Colorado River in Austin, Texas. It has been a popular destination since the 1850s. The mount provides a vista for viewing the city of Austin, Lake Austin, and the surrounding hills


Private Dinner and a show @ Stubb’s BBQ

In the 1970′s, Stubb’s restaurant became the heart of an explosive music scene. Stubbs was ground zero for musicians like Joe Ely and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Other famous musicians who would “play for their supper” included Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Robert Cray, George Thorogood, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Linda Ronstadt and the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Stubb’s Restaurant was always filled with good friends, great music and plenty of Stubb’s Legendary Bar-B-Q.

The Broken Spoke is a bastion for traditional country music, established in 1964 by proprietor James White and claims to be the last of the true Texas dance halls. Dolly Parton, George Straight, and Garth Brooks have all performed here. Don't miss the memorabilia room, aptly nicknamed "the tourist trap room," which is filled with photos, hats, and other country-music treasures.
